Listening to The Shins: Wincing the Night Away

Delightful indie rock. They sound like the love child of The Cure and The Smiths, with a bit of Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel mixed in. I can't even decide on a favorite song, they are all awesome! I first heard them on the "Garden State" soundtrack a few years ago (when Natalie Portman says in the movie "This song will change your life"? That was The Shins. Didn't change MY life I think, but then who knows. Natalie Portman wouldn't lie.)

This is one of their old album covers, isn't that a delightful shade of blue? Kinda reminds me of designer Lotta Jansdotter's work.

... and speaking of blue, I've been playing around with blue sculpey clay (Fimo) to try and make pendants. Man, that stuff is hard to wash off your hands!

Got a few hours to while away?

I basically spent all afternoon today looking at Craftzine Blog. Gazillions of craft ideas (none that I ever will actually finish, just sayin'), bazillions of craft links (such as Indiefixx) leading to craft links (readymade blog) leading to craft links (downloadable leaf prints from twostraightlines)... brrr... dizzy...

Isn't this adorable? Leaf prints from Martha Stewart Living Magazine.

Sandra Boynton @ Kohl's

Ever since her "Chocolate" and "Christmastime" books, I've been a huge fan of Sandra Boynton and her animal characters. So I was thrilled when I saw a Kohl's ad for some of her characters in plush! Just 5 bucks, and really well-made, "and small pellets in the bottom for added stability", what else can you want... (yeah, I've got some added stability too...)

Also, books and CDs for 5 bucks as well. It's for a good cause, the profits go towards the Kohls Cares for Kids program. I'm wondering, though, how much profit can you get out of a $5 selling price?)

Oh well, I got me a rhino. With a bow tie. He's sitting very nicely on one of the dining chairs. Thanks to the pellets in his bum.

One cold kitty comin' up!

Brrr... we got 5 inches of snow. At first, the Cat was thrilled to traipse around on the balcony. I guess it took some time until he started to feel the cold through his fur... Now he hasn't wanted to go outside since Tuesday, I think. Temps around 5F (-15C), when will it end? Well, tomorrow, hopefully. There's a warm spell (possibly even spring?) just around the corner!

Bad blogger! Bad blogger!

... oh, and happy belated Valentine's Day to you. I've been incredibly lazy with my blogging (and I know the statistically exactly 1.5 people who visit this site daily are horribly disappointed. What I'd LIKE to know is, who is that 0.5 person? A midget? Somebody with a really, really slow internet connection? Hello, INSA?)

So... Valentine's Day. This year, Krispy Kreme Donuts offered special heart-shaped donuts. Unfortunately, somebody at the store must have been on a sugar high (or low) and gave us 11 instead of a full dozen donuts. Yes, I'm talking about you, Krispy Kreme in Overland Park! I'm pointing fingers! (*actually, those heart donuts weren't that great. I prefer the cream filled ones with, like, 500 calories more*).

Also, roses and a HUGE, padded (?), red, chocolate filled valentine's heart were received (and ungraciously accepted in typical German manner - "baah, AMERICAN chocolate??" - Smooches!).

Me, I bought some "warm apple pie" scented soap for my apple pie lovin' sweetie, AND baked the best apple pie of my life. I have a thing with baking pies from scratch, the crust is never baked right/too dry/overworked. I guess the combination of the right recipe *sings the happy "You Can't Go Wrong With Two Sticks Of Butter" song*, and a better oven (heat from above AND below! Oh brave new world!) made it just right. Buttery, flaky crust, cinnamon-y apple filling, hmmmh....

Kitties

Yep, there's snow. And bitter cold (the next person to tell me "Oh I'm Sure You're Glad You Got Away From Chicago And All The Terrible Snow There" is gonna get smacked clean over the head!)
But there's also a very sleepy kitty with angel wings on his forehead... :-)
