Tornado alarm

Ooh that was fun. The first tornado warning of the year! Sirens howling, us grabbing safe box, cell phones and wallets *and the kitty* and sitting in the bathroom (safest place in the house, since it's enclosed by other rooms and doesn't have any windows).

Fortunately, the tornados didn't actually touch down anywhere. But, this being Kansas, I'm sure there'll be plenty more opportunities. I know we're reasonably safe here, being in a large new home and not in a little mobile trailer, but that siren (just up the road from here) scares the crap out of me every time I hear it (they test it once a month). Well, our first "safety drill" went pretty well *knock on wood*.

Also, it gave me a chance to take some pictures of our new high-def large screen TV which is pretty nice. A bit overpowering for our small living room, but we'll get used to that.

Close but no fleece blanket

I guess we're official Kansas Cityans now: Waiting in line for an hour to get tickets to the Royals baseball game! The place was packed - I guess the beautiful weather combined with a "free Royals fleece" offer was enough to attract over 30,000 people. Unfortunately, they only had 20,000 blankets. Also unfortunately, we were among the last to get in. Oh well, in a few weeks there'll be free t-shirts, so we'll be back.

The game? Oh, they won, I think. Against the Minnesota Twins, if I got that correctly. Hey, don't blame me, I had two Guiness. Wake me in the middle of the night and I can perfectly explain any soccer offside rules, but baseball is still somewhat of a mystery to me. Most of the time I'm busy trying not to get hit by any rogue balls. This time, we were in a fancy catered (and enclosed) suite, thanks to my SIL, so at least there was not danger of getting knocked out!

We'll fix that in post

Cute kitty (wanting to have his picture taken), messy kitchen background. Ahh, fun with Photoshop *actually, just Microsoft Paint (blush) since I can't figure out Photoshop*

Paper flowers and butterflies

I love getting packages from Germany... aren't these adorable? And they're made of paper!

Yello!

That's a robin sitting there in the middle of the picture. Is it just me or is there a crazy amount of dandelions out this year? Everywhere I look, dandelions. Weeds to some, beautiful little flowers to me!

A penguin

Un Pinguino. by *faboarts on deviantART

Tee hee. Isn't he cute? He's hanging on my kitchen blackboard right now, and I can't decide whether he looks pissed off or normal penguin-like. Guess it depends on the eye of the beholder... You can order a nice postcard-sized print from faboarts' deviant shop for just a few bucks, yay! (If you click on the name, there's also a bunch of other cute little critters...)

Here comes the Sun (dippy dooh dah)

Today, after a series of days filled with rain, freezing rain, rather cold rain, and light sprinkles of snow, the sun came out! When I went to get the mail (which forces me to take a 3 minute walk every day, oh yeah, I'm keeping fit!), I realized I had forgotten how delightfully blue and dotted with white fluffy sheep clouds the Kansas sky can be. Birds were singing, grass was growing. My sunflower seeds (which had been languishing in their pot for the past week or so) suddenly decided they wanted to sprout (and grew about 1 inch during the day!)

One tomato, two tomato, three tomato

:-) Actually, one tomato, two tomato, NO tomato. Although the two "real" ones tasted pretty much like replicas, too. Looking forward to tomato season!

Made something: Egg warmers!

You know that crazy European custom of serving hard boiled eggs for breakfast? Well, you want those to stay warm while you prepare the rest of your whackily complicated breakfast (no, not the Capt'n Crunch cereal!). And that's why God invented egg cozies. These are supposed to be in the shape of chicks. I intended them to look so demented (that's what I should always say about my "creations"!).

Subtitle: "Everyone knew that Little Timmy had suffered horribly, but apparently nobody had seen a thing."

(Just ignore the giant hole in the seam on the middle one. I sent that one off to my sister, where he'll hopefully live a fulfilled life to the end. She'll never know...)

Springtime at the KC Plaza

Nice little houses along Ward Parkway:

Giant Easter bunnies saying "Hi":
"Hi !!"

And blooming redbud *my favorite!* and crab apple trees along Brush Creek:
